Boiler pressure
Boiler pressure: what it does
The pressurestat switches the element on and off to hold the boiler pressure, and on an HX machine that sets how hot the brew water gets. Bezzera's 2020 part is set at 1.2 bar, and the manual's working range is 1 to 1.2 bar.
- Above 1.3 bar: coffee too hot (the manual).
- Below 0.8 bar: coffee too cold (the manual).
For both, the manual says call a technician. Owners adjust it themselves through the top: the next screen describes how, as owner practice only. Owners also report a seal on the pressurestat, and Bezzera's warranty does not survive a broken seal.
How owners adjust it
Bezzera's manual does not give this job. The method below is someone else's, named on each step. Choice Coffee reaches the screw with a long thin screwdriver through a hole in the top frame; an owner gives the direction and step size. Step 2 is our addition.
- Let the machine heat fully and read the boiler scale.
- Switch off and unplug.
- Lift off the cup grid.
- Find the slotted adjusting screw through the hole above the pressurestat.
- Turn it 1/8 turn at most. The owner: clockwise raises the pressure, and 1/8 turn is about 0.1 bar.
- Refit the grid, plug in, let it heat and read again. Repeat until it settles at 1 to 1.2 bar.
