Gasket and shower screen
The seal and screen under the group
A maker job: the manual's "Using the Allen key" (UK guide: "Using the hex key"). One centre screw holds the stainless shower screen; the silicone seal sits round it.
When: "Over time" (the manual). The manual lists a worn seal as a cause of coffee running out round the portafilter. Owners change it about yearly.
Parts: seal SP0025526 (was SP0001474), screen SP0001475, screw SP0001476. Breville gives no seal sizes beyond 54 mm.
Screw, screen and seal out
The manual's steps, with the machine cold.
- Press POWER to switch off and unplug.
- Take out the tank and the drip tray.
- Clean the coffee out of the centre of the screw with a skewer.
- Put the short end of the hex key in the screw and turn it anticlockwise to loosen.
- Take out the screw and the screen and note which side of the screen faces down. Wash and dry the screen.
- Pull out the old seal with your fingers or long-nose pliers.
New seal, back together
The manual's steps, with one owner tip at the end.
- Fit the new seal flat side first, so the ribbed side faces you.
- Refit the screen the same way up as it came out.
- Start the screw by hand for 2 to 3 turns.
- Tighten it with the key until it is flush with the screen. Do not overtighten.
- Refit the drip tray and the tank.
- Lock the empty portafilter in to seat the seal (Hoon's Coffee, owner).
