Pressure valve
The pressure valve, and the OPV mod
Breville's US manual: "For any maintenance other than cleaning, call Breville Consumer Support." Sage's UK guide: "Any maintenance other than cleaning should be performed by an authorised Sage service centre." Opening the case is an unauthorised repair under Breville's and Sage's warranty terms and voids the warranty (1 year in the US and Canada, 2 years in the UK, EU and Australia). Wait until it has run out. Treat this as service-centre work: the methods shown are owners' and retailers', named where they appear.
Breville's parts list calls it the "Safety Valve" (SP0001539, discontinued). Owners show it as a small plastic T on the pump outlet that sends excess water back to the tray. Breville gives no pressure figure; a reviewer measured 14 to 15 bar on a blind basket.
The "OPV mod" lowers that. All three methods are owner work:
- Unscrew the insert 2 to 2.5 turns: about 12 bar, the limit of this method (Craft Coffee Spot; Reddit). Steps on the next screen.
- Shorten the spring seat or spring: about 9 bar. One owner cut 1 mm off the seat, keeping it square; another cut 2 to 3 coils off the spring.
- Fit an adjustable brass valve with quick connectors (Reddit, following an owner guide).
No source names a replacement spring for this valve.

An owner modification, not a Breville or Sage method. Craft Coffee Spot's steps.
- Take off the top and back.
- Cut the cable tie and pull the tube off the valve.
- Remove the clip from the valve.
- Mark the factory position of the threaded insert (there is a factory mark).
- Unscrew the insert by hand 2 to 2.5 turns. No further, or it falls out.
- Refit the clip, the tube and a new cable tie, then test with a gauge.
