Take the panels off

Screws out, top cover off

Breville's US manual: "For any maintenance other than cleaning, call Breville Consumer Support." Sage's UK guide: "Any maintenance other than cleaning should be performed by an authorised Sage service centre." Opening the case is an unauthorised repair under Breville's and Sage's warranty terms and voids the warranty (1 year in the US and Canada, 2 years in the UK, EU and Australia). Wait until it has run out. Treat this as service-centre work: the methods shown are owners' and retailers', named where they appear.

Steps from Craft Coffee Spot (reviewer, 2023) and LAI (owner, 2018).

  1. Switch off, unplug and let the machine cool.
  2. Remove the hopper, tamper, tank, drip tray and storage tray.
  3. Remove the 2 front screws: one right of the hot water outlet, one by the tamper.
  4. Remove the 5 screws along the top edge of the back panel.
  5. Prise out the plastic caps on the back and remove the deep screws under them with a long, thin driver.
  6. Lift the top cover and unplug the grinder cable from its connector.

Base screws, back panel off

Steps from Craft Coffee Spot, Seth Morris (owner, 2025) and BrewFix (technician, 2026).

  1. Lay the machine on its side on a towel.
  2. Remove the base screws at the back: 4 per Craft Coffee Spot and Seth Morris; Tom's Coffee Corner removed only the inner two.
  3. Unplug the tank water-level sensor (Seth Morris).
  4. Release the clips along the sides of the back panel with a small flat screwdriver wrapped in tape (BrewFix).
  5. Pull the back panel steadily back and lift it off.

Refitting: push the hidden capped screw up into its hole before the panel goes back, because it sinks (Tom's Coffee Corner).
