Water and filters
Water, and when to change the filter
Change the filter on the manual's interval for your region.
- US and Australia: every 2 months, more often in hard water.
- UK: every 3 months or 40 litres at hardness level 4; up to 60 litres at level 2 (UK guide).
- Take the filter out when descaling, and (US manual) if you use filtered or bottled water.
- Use cold mains water. Not distilled or de-mineralised.
The cartridge is the same in all regions: Sage SES008 "ClaroSwiss", Breville BES008. Breville's own US video says both "2 months ahead" and "90 days or 10.6 gallons" (40 litres); the US manual says 2 months.
Fit a new filter
The manual's steps.
- Soak the new filter in a cup of water for 5 minutes.
- Rinse it under cold running water.
- Rinse the holder in cold water, taking care over the stainless steel mesh.
- Fit the filter into the two halves of the holder.
- Set the date dial: 2 months ahead (US manual). The UK guide's filter page says the current month; its first-use page says the month it is due.
- Line the holder up with the adapter inside the tank, push it down to lock, and refit the tank fully down.
