Espresso, De'Longhi's way

De'Longhi's shot, step by step

De'Longhi's method. Use freshly ground coffee made for espresso; store beans cool, dark and dry.

  1. Warm the cups on the cup warmer, or rinse them with hot water.
  2. Fit the filter holder with an empty filter and run a 1-cup shot into the cup: this heats the holder and the cup.
  3. Fill the 1-cup filter with one level measure (about 7 g), or the 2-cup filter with two loosely filled measures. Make sure no old grounds remain.
  4. Level the coffee and press it gently with the tamper. Check the level after pressing; you may need to add more.
  5. Wipe the rim, fit at INSERT and turn to the right to CLOSE.
  6. Press 1-cup or 2-cup when the lights are steady. It stops by itself; wait a few seconds before you take the holder out.

The manual: press too firmly and the coffee comes slowly and strong; too lightly and it comes quickly and weak. Still not hot enough: raise the temperature in the settings menu.

Set your own cup volume

The manual's programming and stop controls.

  1. Put the cup under the spouts with the coffee in the holder.
  2. Press and hold the 1-cup or 2-cup button. Delivery starts and the other coffee button flashes.
  3. Release it when the cup holds what you want. The light flashes to confirm.
  4. Press the same button during a normal shot to stop it early.
  5. Press and hold the same button within 3 seconds of the end to add a little more.
