Water and filters

Test your water and set the hardness

The 2026 manual puts a hardness test strip in the box; the steps are from the Get Started guide and the manual's menu.

  1. Dip the strip in tap water for 1 second.
  2. Shake it and wait about a minute.
  3. Count the red squares: 1 to 4.
  4. Hold the steam button for 10 seconds to enter the menu.
  5. Press the 2-cup button (water hardness).
  6. Press 1-cup for soft, 2-cup for medium or steam for hard.

Bands from the 2016 and US manuals: soft under 10 °dH (under 180 mg/l), medium 10 to 20 °dH, hard over 20 °dH (over 360 mg/l).

Fit the softener filter

The filter is optional: "not included, available for purchase at authorised service centres" (the manual, which gives EAN 8004399327252). De'Longhi's shops sell it as DLSC002. Steps from the Get Started guide.

  1. Rinse the new filter with about 0.5 litre of tap water.
  2. Turn the calendar disc to show the next 2 months.
  3. Fill the tank and hold the filter under the water for about 10 seconds, tilted to let the air out.
  4. Push it into its housing in the tank as far as it goes.
  5. Refit the lid and the tank.

It lasts about 2 months in normal use, or 3 weeks at most if the machine stands unused with it fitted. Take it out before descaling.
