Boilers and elements

Two boilers and what sits on them

ECM's manual says any repair or change of components must be carried out by an authorised specialist dealer, using only original spare parts; otherwise ECM accepts no liability. Treat this as dealer work.

From ECM's list: the coffee boiler (P9012) with a 1000 W element; the steam boiler (P9232) with a 1400 W element, a level probe, an anti-vacuum valve with drain (P2561) and a 2.5 bar safety valve with drain (P2661); element seals P9013; 145 °C safety thermostats; and two 200 W cartridges in the group. Clive reaches the steam element through an access panel underneath. Boiler replacement is Clive's hardest rating, 4 of 4.

Clive's anti-vacuum valve rebuild is on the next screen.

Rebuild the anti-vacuum valve

Clive Coffee's method, written for "ECM Synchronika or a Profitec Pro 700".

  1. Unplug, let it cool, and take the panels off (3 mm Allen).
  2. Pull the flexible tube off the valve.
  3. Put a 17 mm spanner or deep socket on the cap.
  4. Hold the lower fitting with a second wrench and unscrew the cap.
  5. Pull the internals out with needle-nose pliers, noting their order.
  6. Clean or replace them from the rebuild kit, clean inside the cap and fitting, and refit in the same order.

The colour of the O-ring varies; Clive says it does not matter.
