The display menu
The decoder and the basic settings
Everything is set with the decoder: double-press to open the menu, turn to move, press to choose and confirm. With no input for 5 seconds the menu closes. The manual's basic settings:
- Brew Temperature: factory 92 °C. The manual gives no range.
- Steam Enable: ON or OFF. Shortcut: turn the decoder left and press.
- Steam Temperature: factory 128 °C, up to 132 °C. ECM suggests starting lower.
- Preinfusion: ON or OFF, with an active time and a passive time. Shortcut: turn right and press.
- Eco Mode: OFF to 600 minutes in 10-minute steps; factory 30. Press the decoder for 3 seconds to go to Eco at once.
- Cleaning Reminder: OFF to 200 shots in steps of 10. ECM suggests a group clean every 90 to 140 shots; only shots over 15 seconds count.
- Reset Reminder and Advanced User Settings (next but one).
Change a setting
The manual's method.
- Double-press the decoder. The menu opens at Brew Temperature.
- Turn the decoder to the setting you want.
- Press to choose it.
- Turn to change the value.
- Press to confirm.
- Leave it for 5 seconds: the menu closes by itself.
Preinfusion: after choosing ON, set the active time (upper value), then the passive time (lower value); each is editable for 3 seconds. ECM's example is 4 seconds active and 6 passive. ECM recommends active preinfusion on the tank, and passive only (active at 0) on mains water.
Advanced settings, the timer, and a reset
Set Advanced User Settings to ON to show: Filter Reminder (OFF to 200 litres), Timer Enable (ON follows your schedule and ignores Eco), Clock Set, Schedule Set (two on and two off times per weekday), Tank Mode (ON = tank, the factory setting), Temperature Unit and Offset Correction (−10 to +10; factory 2 °C). Hiding them again keeps the values.
The manual's reset, for odd behaviour after changing settings:
- Switch off.
- Lift the brew lever.
- Press and hold the decoder.
- Switch on while holding it: the machine resets.
- Switch off and lower the lever.
- Switch on as normal and do the first start-up again.
