Water and filters
What water to use
The manual's water advice:
- Hardness: up to 4 °dH (German degrees), about 71 ppm. Soft, drinkable, not fizzy.
- Filter cartridge in the tank's filter adapter: ECM AC100027-00 (89445.K on 2024 machines). Change it as its own instructions say; the Filter Reminder counts the litres.
- Chlorine: for weak crema and body, ECM suggests a chlorine filter.
- On mains: Clive Coffee adds a softener and filter as well as the pressure regulator.
Test your water with Water hardness test strips. Clive Coffee suggests 35 to 85 ppm, ideally about 50.
Fit a filter cartridge
From the manual.
- Open the cup warming tray.
- Lift out the tank.
- Soak the new cartridge well. The manual: a dry cartridge stops the machine drawing water.
- Fit it in the tank's filter adapter, as the cartridge's own instructions show.
- Put the tank back in its guides and close the tray.
- In Advanced User Settings, set the Filter Reminder to the cartridge's litres, and reset it at each change.
