Replace the over-pressure valve

The valve is the fixed black plastic part on the pump's outlet. The retailer Whole Latte Love describes a failing one as a brief burst of steam, then the sound of water running back into the tank; its fix is a new valve. Gaggia's manual does not cover this, and its safety booklet says repairs are only for a service centre authorised by Gaggia.

1. Take the pump out as far as step 5 of the pump job.
2. Hold the pump's outlet neck with a spanner and unscrew the valve by hand. Screw the new one on by hand, with its O-ring.
3. Refit everything as in fit the new pump, with a new ear clamp, and put the return tube back in the tank.

The 2019 service manual gives 1.0 Nm for the valve on the pump.
