The screen screw will not come out

The centre screw bakes in with coffee, or its head strips. Gaggia's manual does not cover this, and its safety booklet says repairs are only for a service centre authorised by Gaggia. This is the retailer Whole Latte Love's way out, which sacrifices the screen.

1. With the machine unplugged, cold and emptied, turn it upside down. Use a long screwdriver and press down hard as you turn.
2. If it still will not move, dig a pick or a fine flat screwdriver into the screen near its edge.
3. Tap it anticlockwise with a hammer. The screen turns and breaks the screw free.
4. Fit a new screen and a new M5 × 8 screw.
