The steam knob spins freely, or rubs

The knob spins without opening the steam. Its spring clip is missing, or the knob is stripped. Fit a new clip or knob.
The knob rubs on the case. The steam valve is bolted on off-centre. Slacken its two screws, centre the knob in its hole and retighten: see fit the new valve.
