Backflush: monthly, says Gaggia

The job keeps its usual name, but Gaggia's manual says to do it once a month. The machine does not come with a blind filter: buy a 58 mm one.

1. Check that the drain pipe is fitted.
2. Put the blind filter in the filter holder. The manual says to divide a Gaggia cleaning tablet into 4 parts and put it in.
3. Lock the filter holder in.
4. Press the brew button, wait 5 seconds and press it again.
5. Wait about 30 seconds while water and detergent drain through the pipe into the tray.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 at least 10 times, until clean water flows into the drip tray.

Rinse it through

Still the manual's method.

1. Remove the filter holder and the blind filter and wash them in hot water.
2. Lock them back in. Run the pump for 5 seconds and stop, at least 10 times, with no detergent.
3. Remove the filter holder and brush the shower screen.
4. Run a cup of hot water, about 150 ml, through the group.
5. Wash the drip tray.
