Gasket and shower screen
What is under the group
La Marzocco gives owners this job: its US how-to rates it "Easy". From the bottom up: one centre screw, the shower screen, the gasket, and above them a dispersion block that stays in place.
How often: La Marzocco US says every 6 to 12 months; La Marzocco UK sells a kit "to perform your 6-month Preventative Maintenance routine"; the maintenance checklist checks it yearly.
The next two screens follow La Marzocco's how-to, written for its home machines generally.
Screen and old gasket out
La Marzocco's how-to.
- Switch off and let the machine cool for about 2 hours.
- Take out the portafilter.
- Undo the centre screw with a flat screwdriver. The screen drops away.
- Prise out the old gasket with a gasket pick.
- Clean the groove and the face above the screen.
New gasket in, screen back on
Still La Marzocco's how-to.
- For a rubber gasket, wipe a thin layer of food-safe silicone grease (Molykote) on the flat side.
- Fit the gasket with the flat side up into the machine and the bevelled side down.
- Press it home with the back of the pick.
- Refit the screen and its screw, tightening gently.
- Lock the portafilter in several times to seat the gasket.
