Backflush with detergent

The manual's method.

1. Put the blind filter in the portafilter and add detergent as its pack says.
2. Lock the portafilter in.
3. Move the paddle to brew, and stop after 15 to 20 seconds.
4. Repeat, start and stop, until clear water rather than soapy water comes out when you take the portafilter off.
5. Wait for the group to stop before you take the portafilter out.

Then rinse: the next screen. La Marzocco uses its own puro caff detergent; its FAQ for Germany names Puly Caff.

Or let the app run it, then rinse

The app replaces the paddle work of the previous screen; La Marzocco says to prepare the portafilter first. The rinse follows either method.

1. Prepare the portafilter with the blind filter and detergent, and lock it in.
2. In the app, choose Backflush, then Start Cleaning. The cycle takes about 2 minutes.
3. Take the portafilter out and swap the blind filter for a normal basket.
4. Lock it in and run water through it several times to rinse.
