Clean the boiler with bicarbonate
These are the manual's steps (2024 edition) for the first time you use it.
- Unscrew the boiler cap anticlockwise.
- Dissolve 2 teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda in water and pour it in, up to the top of the sight glass. The manual also allows 1 tablespoon of white vinegar instead.
- Push the lever fully down.
- Screw the cap back on clockwise. Make sure the cap and the steam knob are closed.
- Fit the filter holder, sliding it in from the front to the left.
- Plug in, switch on and wait for pressure, about 5 minutes.
Empty it through the group
Still the manual.
- Put a container under the filter holder.
- Slowly lift the lever until it is fully up, and hold it there so all the water in the boiler comes out through the group.
- Lower the lever. Switch off and unplug.
- Turn the steam knob anticlockwise and wait until all the steam has gone from the steam pipe.
- Fill the boiler again with clean water, to rinse out the solution: the next screen.
Rinse three times, then steam
The rinse is new in the 2024 manual.
- Fill with clean water to the top of the glass. Lever down, cap and steam knob closed, holder in. Switch on and wait about 5 minutes.
- Switch off and unplug. With a container under the group, lift the lever fully until the water is down to the bottom of the glass.
- Lower the lever. With the container under the steam pipe, open the steam knob, let all the steam out, then close it.
- Take the cap off, refill, and repeat the rinse two more times.
- Fill to the top, heat up, then let steam out of the pipe for 2 minutes and close the knob.
- Wait for the machine to get back to temperature, and repeat the steaming twice.
