Heating element and boiler gaskets

The element and the boiler joint

La Pavoni's manual says any servicing or repair, apart from normal cleaning and maintenance, must be done by an authorised service centre, and that unauthorised repairs or non-original parts void the warranty. Its service-centre list names none in the UK. The method here is from retailers and owners, as marked. Its troubleshooting table sends a burnt-out element and noisy element coils to the service centre.

The element (331335 at 230 V, 331334 at 120 V) fits into the bottom of the boiler with an O-ring (465225), held by M5 × 12 socket screws with M5 nuts. A retailer counts three. A fixing ring screws onto the boiler bottom and clamps it into the base, with gaskets (362019, 2612017) above and below. Espresso Care sells a tool for the ring.

Change the element

One Home-Barista owner's method, with sizes from the parts list.

  1. Take the base plate off, with the boiler empty.
  2. Photograph the wiring, then take the element's wires off.
  3. Undo the element screws (M5 socket cap: a 4 mm hex key by the standard), holding the M5 nuts.
  4. Prise the element gently. The owner says it pops out.
  5. Fit a new O-ring (465225) and the new element.
  6. Refit the screws snug and the wires as photographed. A meter across the element should read about 53 Ω at 230 V.
