Keep the group at the right temperature
Why the group gets too hot
The manual: "After having dispensed 3-4 consecutive coffees, it is recommended to wait a few minutes to allow the group head to return to the right temperature in order not to dispense burnt coffee."
La Pavoni's FAQ says the Europiccola brews at about 92 °C. The other way round, the manual's fix for coffee that is too cold is to let the machine reach temperature and heat the holder with it.
The manual gives no way to measure the group. Owners' ways to check and cool it are on the next screen.
Owners' ways to check and cool it
- Measure. Owners stick a temperature strip on the front of the group, just above the bell. Their targets vary by roast, from about 80 to 93 °C; one starts at 85 °C and sees about 90 °C during the pull.
- Cool. A cold wet towel held tight round the group's neck for half a minute drops it about 10 °C. Others dip the holder in cold water.
- Warm. Half pumps of the lever, or the manual's cup of hot water.
