Know the machine
What is on the outside
One switch, one knob and one lever. Tap a part to see what it does.
The names are the manual's: lever, boiler cap, steam knob, water level indicator (the sight glass), ON/OFF switch, indicator light, filter holder, group head and steam pipe.
What is inside the base
There is no pump, tank, valve block or controller. One element heats the boiler, the pressurestat switches it to hold the pressure, and the safety thermostat cuts the power if the boiler runs dry.
The manual: "The base mat is fastened to the machine with a special Torx screw to prevent tampering with electrical parts. For any type of maintenance or if the power cable has to be replaced, please contact an authorised SERVICE CENTRE."
Which Europiccola you have
Parts changed over the years, mostly out of sight. The one that matters most is the group: buy group parts and seal kits for the Millennium group if yours is 60 mm across.
The "49 or 51 mm piston" you may read about is a mix-up: the 49 and 51 mm figures are basket and tamper sizes. The piston and its seals are the same part on both groups, say retailers.
