Pressurestat
The pressurestat
La Pavoni's manual says any servicing or repair, apart from normal cleaning and maintenance, must be done by an authorised service centre, and that unauthorised repairs or non-original parts void the warranty. Its service-centre list names none in the UK. The method here is from retailers and owners, as marked. Its troubleshooting table blames a pressure switch "not working within the required range" for coffee too hot or too cold and for a whistling safety valve, and sends it to the service centre.
La Pavoni's parts list gives an Echo MA-TER 230 V pressurestat with a 0.5 to 1.2 bar range (451308), on a pipe from the element flange, inside the base. La Pavoni does not publish the factory setting. One owner quotes 0.7 to 0.8 bar; Whole Latte Love says 0.7 to 1 bar.
What owners report about adjusting it
There is no gauge on the Lusso, so you cannot see what an adjustment does without fitting one. This is mains work inside the base: La Pavoni says service centre.
- Echo, screw type (today's unit): "Clockwise to increase", and a quarter turn makes a big difference (owner).
- Older adjusting-ring type: one owner turns the ring clockwise to reduce the pressure, 2 to 3 clicks, and warns the ring breaks easily.
- Scale: a scaled pipe stops it sensing the pressure. One owner cleared it with wire.
- Failed: an adjuster with no effect, cycling at 1.2 to 1.4 bar, needed a new pressurestat (owner).
