The lever rises, sticks or creaks

The lever rises by itself, or feels rough

It rises by itself after you switch off. Normal: the manual says a vacuum forms as the boiler cools. Open the steam knob to let air in.
It is bumpy, stiff or creaks. Dry or worn piston seals (owner), or play in the lever pins; Coffee Sensor sells a PTFE spacer kit for that.
