Water and filters
Change the softener filter
- Soak the new filter in a jug of water for about 3 minutes to drive the air out.
- Lift the tank lid, pull the intake tube out and take the old filter off.
- Push the new filter on and put the tube back in the tank.
The manual says to replace the 35 litre filter every 14 complete tank fillings or after 4 months, whichever comes first. If the machine stands unused for a month, fit a new one. A 70 litre size is sold in packs of two.
One owner found an exhausted filter slowed the water enough to make pressure build slowly.
The right water, and the intake filter
The manual asks for room-temperature water with chloride lower than 30 ppm, and for the softener filter to be used. Never add a descaling product to the tank.
A small plastic intake filter (MC042) sits on the end of the intake tube. It comes off when the softener filter goes on, and goes back on if you run without one. Lelit gives no cleaning method or interval for it.
Owners with soft water who switch the machine off between uses report the fewest repairs. Scale and leaving the steam boiler on all day show up in the bad cases.
