Water and filters
Test your water
Scale is the main thing that kills these machines, and it is decided by the water you put in. Profitec's limit is 4 °dH, which is about 70 ppm. One major retailer gives a working range of 35 to 85 ppm.
- Test your tap water with hardness strips or a TDS meter every 3 to 4 months, and whenever you move house.
- Above the limit, use a softening cartridge in the tank or bottled water in range.
- Avoid distilled or pure reverse-osmosis water; retailers advise against it.
Change the filters
There are two filters. A softening cartridge, if you fit one, hangs in the tank: change it every 2 to 3 months, or monthly on very hard water.
The small in-line filter (C439900695) sits in the silicone tube between the tank and the pump:
- Unplug. Undo the six screws on the back panel with a 2.5 mm hex key and lift the panel up and out.
- Pull the silicone tube off both ends of the filter.
- Push the new filter in and refit the panel.
