Weekly backflush
Fit the blind basket
When you stop a shot, the three-way valve releases the pressure from the puck down a tube into the drip tray. Coffee oils travel with it and bake on. Backflushing pushes detergent backwards along that same route. Profitec recommends it every 90 to 140 coffees.
- Twist the portafilter left and take it out.
- Lever the normal basket out with a spoon handle. A spring clip holds it, so it needs a firm pull.
- Press the blind basket in. It has no holes.
- Add 3 to 5 g of detergent, about half a level teaspoon.
Run, rinse and brush
- Lock the portafilter in, handle straight ahead.
- Press the coffee button. The gauge climbs because the water has nowhere to go.
- After about 20 seconds, press again to stop. You will hear the valve dump into the drip tray. Repeat until the water landing in the tray runs clear.
- Take the portafilter out, rinse the blind basket, lock it back in and repeat the same cycles with water only.
- Run the pump with no portafilter and brush the screen and gasket.
- Refit the normal basket. Pull one shot and throw it away, which re-seasons the group.
