Brew pressure
What the gauge tells you
The gauge shows brew pressure. The highest pressure is set by the expansion valve, which on the Evo sits under the group and is adjusted from outside (Quick Mill's datasheet) with a flat screwdriver in its slotted screw (importer's manual).
- Target: 9.5 to 10 bar with the blind basket in (importer).
- 9.5 to 10 on the blind basket but under 8 bar with coffee: grind finer.
- Original Silvano: the valve is inside the case, and adjusting it means opening the machine (importer). The Dutch importer's manual gives it as set to 9 bar.
Check and set it with the blind basket
The importer's method.
- Put the blind basket in the portafilter and lock it in.
- Turn the brew switch on.
- Read the gauge.
- If it is outside 9.5 to 10 bar, turn the slotted screw under the right side of the group a small amount, about a quarter turn.
- Read the gauge again. If it moved the wrong way, turn back past where you started.
- At 9.5 to 10 bar, turn the brew switch off and take the portafilter out.
