Gasket and shower screen
What is under the group
From Quick Mill's parts list, bottom up: the group gasket (35.10.30) in the ring; the flat shower screen (D001,8); behind it the diffuser flange (FLA6075) with an O-ring (OR3187); all held by one centre screw, an M5 × 16 countersunk hex socket (VITTSPEI5X16) that takes a 3 mm hex key (importer's manual).
The importer replaces the gasket yearly, which it says makes the job much easier.
Gasket and screen out
The importer's method.
- Switch off, unplug and let the group cool.
- Pierce the gasket with an awl or ice pick and prise it out.
- Pick out every remaining piece.
- Undo the centre screw with a 3 mm hex key.
- Take down the screen and the diffuser behind it.
- Soak the screen in hot water with espresso machine cleaner, or replace it.
Fit the new gasket
The importer's method.
- Refit the diffuser and screen with the centre screw.
- Press the new gasket into the ring by hand, bevelled side up.
- Push it home with the portafilter, with no basket in it.
- Then lock the portafilter in with the basket fitted.
