Fill the tank and switch on

These are the manual's steps (2024 edition). It asks for the same after a long stop.

1. Stand the machine on a level, stable surface with space round it.
2. Lift off the lid and fill the tank with about 2 litres of drinking water, with both tubes in it.
3. Open the tap.
4. Switch on the coffee switch only.
5. Plug the machine in.
6. Switch on the main switch.

The manual warns: never switch on before filling the tank, or the element can be damaged.

Run water through the group and wand

Still the manual. This fills the boiler and pushes the air out.

1. Put a container under the group, with no portafilter fitted.
2. Let 1 litre of water run out of the group.
3. Switch the coffee switch off.
4. Move the container under the wand. When water starts to come out, let about 0.2 litres run, then close the tap.
5. Empty the container and the drip tray.

The 2019 edition, shipped with early V6 machines, runs it the other way: close the tap as soon as water reaches the wand, then run 0.5 litres from the group.
