Gasket and shower screen

What is under the group

Rancilio gives no method for this, and no interval. From the group outwards, its parts list shows a brass shower holder, the gasket, a jet breaker (a diffuser plate), the shower screen, and one centre screw through the screen and jet breaker into the holder.

The next two screens follow an owner's video that says it shows a V6 (NJS Instructional, 2021), and Whole Latte Love's article for an older Silvia. The video's description links a six-year review, so its machine may be older.

The retailer 1st-line gives 6 months for heavy use and 12 months for light use.

Take the screen off

The owner's video and Whole Latte Love's method.

  1. Switch off, unplug and let the machine cool. Take out the tank, the portafilter, the drip tray and the grid.
  2. Lay the machine on its back (Whole Latte Love) or upside down (the video) for access.
  3. Undo the centre screw with a flat screwdriver short enough to clear the tray, or an 8 mm socket.
  4. Take off the screen and the jet breaker. The video stresses not to lose the jet breaker.
  5. Lift out the brass holder if it comes free.

New gasket in, screen back on

Still the video and the retailer.

  1. Lever the old gasket out with a pick or a small screwdriver. Whole Latte Love also threads in two small screws and pulls them with pliers.
  2. Clean the groove, the holder, the jet breaker and the screen.
  3. Push the new gasket in by hand, or seat it by locking the portafilter in and turning it.
  4. Refit the holder, the jet breaker and the screen.
  5. Fit the screw "nice and firm" but not over-tight. No torque is published.
  6. Lock the portafilter in. A new gasket leaves the handle further right; the video calls that fine as long as it seals.
