The over-pressure valve

Rancilio's parts list calls it the expansion valve (10060406), screwed into a connector on the boiler (23000256). A retailer's video of an older Silvia (Espressotec) places it off the side of the boiler. Rancilio's 2019 manual and its current US manual give this on a page headed "This operation should only be conducted by a qualified technician". The 2024 EU manual drops the page altogether.

Weak shots with water heard running back to the tank point to the valve opening early or a worn spring (owner report); Espresso Parts sells the spring (39110040) and a replacement valve "factory-adjustable up to 10 bar". A weak pump gives the same sign. For adjusting it, see brew pressure.
