Take the top off

Four screws and the cup tray

Rancilio gives owners no method for this. Its manual says to unplug and let the machine cool before opening it, to use only original spare parts, and, for any problem it does not list, to contact its technical support. Treat it as technician work. Rancilio's own picture of this is on its technician's page; Clive Coffee's article gives the same order.

  1. Switch off, unplug and let the machine cool completely.
  2. Lift off the lid and lift the tank out.
  3. Remove the four screws on top, one near each corner.
  4. Lift off the cup tray.

Spring clip nuts sit under the screws. The body is one wrap-around piece, so there are no side panels.

Further in: front plate and back panel

Some jobs need more room than the top gives. These steps are from the retailer 1st-line and Clive Coffee (front), and a 2001 Whole Latte Love sheet (back).

  1. Front: remove the two cross-head screws in the plate behind the group, and take the plate off.
  2. Back: loosen, but do not remove, the screw under the plate where the tank sits.
  3. Remove the two small cross-head screws at the top of the frame.
  4. Slide the back panel off rearwards.
  5. Refit everything in reverse order, the top last.
